ABOUT

saferinthecity is Harry Paynter; a songwriter, artist and producer, based in the South West, who releases alternative music and works under the name of, ‘saferinthecity’. His songs explore a relaxed, ambient sonic direction, and feature introspective and narrative lyrics, featuring guest vocalists and his own. Taking inspiration from the DIY pop sound of Nina Nesbitt and Clairo, and songwriting of Sara Bareilles and Jack Antonoff, Paynter writes in the pop genre, but also has experience in the genres of musical theatre and indie, in the past.

Over the past year, saferinthecity has begun playing gigs in his area, accompanied by his band (Matt Neal on bass and synth, and Jess Crudge on backing vocals, guitar and programming), working on recreating the synth heavy studio sound in the live setting.

saferinthecity’s music is both sparse and intricate, with a focus on synthesised sound and pitched vocals, that allow his emotion to cut through. Lyrically, his songs draw inspiration from a myriad of subject matter, which includes Paynter’s experience of being an identical twin, his take on the implications of social media in the modern age and reflections of his time visiting foreign cities.

His new single, ‘Everytime it Rains’, is self produced, and details feelings of worry that we may all be replaceable. It uses auto-tune and vocoders to heighten the emotion and intensify the sound. This song is taken from saferinthecity’s upcoming EP, ‘For the Love of Pop’ which is due for release on all platforms later this year.

He has also began producing and managing releases for other artists, such as Olivia Price, who's first single reached 1 thousand streams within 4 four days of release.
